WHY WE DON´T BLADE

WHY WE DON’T BLADE

Beautiful eyebrows don’t require a blade.

Why we don´t blade?

If you’re considering manual microblading, I would like to explain why I no longer offer it.

This isn’t because I stopped believing in natural-looking eyebrows. I still create them every day.

It’s because after more than 26 years in the permanent makeup industry in Murfreesboro, TN, I no longer believe cutting the skin with a blade is the best way to achieve them.

Before you decide to have manual microblading done, I think it’s important to understand how the procedure actually works.

Manual microblading implants pigment by creating hundreds—sometimes thousands—of tiny blade incisions in the skin. Those cuts allow pigment to enter the tissue. Without those blade incisions, there is no manual microblading.

That single fact changed the way I look at permanent makeup.

Fresh microblading can look beautiful. That’s never been my concern.

My concern begins the moment the skin has been cut.

Over the years, I have corrected enough permanent makeup to notice the same problems appearing again and again. Not every client experiences every one of them, but I saw these situations often enough that I reached a conclusion I could no longer ignore.

I put the blade down.

1. THE TYNDALL EFFECT

One of the most disappointing long-term changes I see is eyebrows that slowly become gray, bluish or ashy. Clients often tell me they thought their eyebrows were simply fading…they weren’t, the color changed. Once that happens, restoring a natural-looking appearance becomes far more complicated than preventing the problem in the first place. That’s one of the reasons I developed the Tru2Color™ Method. My goal is to create eyebrows that remain true to color instead of creating eyebrows that may require correction years later.

2. SCARRING

Every manual microblading procedure depends on cutting the skin. Those cuts heal, but they don’t disappear. Years later, when I work on previously bladed eyebrows, I’m no longer working on untouched skin. Creating fine, crisp hair strokes becomes more challenging because the surface has already been altered and literally has visible scars. That made me ask a simple question: If I can create natural-looking hair strokes without using a blade, why would I continue cutting the skin? I couldn’t justify it.

3. OVERSATURATION ON MATURE SKIN

Most women interested in permanent makeup are not in their twenties. As we age, our skin naturally becomes thinner. That means depth control becomes even more critical during a blading procedure. If pigment is implanted deeper than intended, those delicate hair strokes can gradually lose their definition. Instead of soft individual strokes, the eyebrow may begin looking heavier and less natural over time. That’s one of the reasons I believe mature skin deserves a more thoughtful approach than manual blading.

4. THINNING SKIN

The skin around the eyebrows is naturally delicate. Every blade pass creates another incision. One procedure is enough to permanently change the tissue. When I perform permanent makeup, I want to achieve the result with the least amount of trauma possible. For me, beautiful eyebrows should never require more injury to the skin than necessary.

5. EXCESSIVE BLEEDING

Blood and pigment compete for the same space. The more a client bleeds during a procedure, the more difficult it becomes to implant pigment consistently. Less pigment remains where it was intended. Healing becomes less predictable. Patchy retention often follows. That’s one of the reasons I no longer use a blade to create hair strokes.

6. EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF SCAR TISSUE

Many people believe corrective permanent makeup is simply a matter of changing color. It isn’t. Sometimes the greatest challenge isn’t the pigment. It’s the skin. Scar tissue cannot simply be removed. Every future procedure has to work around it. I don’t want my clients facing that situation years later. That’s another reason I chose to stop blading.

DOES THIS MEAN I STOPPED CREATING HAIR STROKES?

Not at all. Hair strokes remain one of the most beautiful eyebrow styles ever created. I simply no longer create them with a manual blade.

Today, every eyebrow procedure I perform is done with a digital permanent makeup machine. When hair strokes are appropriate, I create them digitally. When another eyebrow technique will produce a better long-term result, I use that instead. Either way, my clients receive eyebrows created without manual blading.

WHY THIS MATTERS?

Permanent makeup shouldn’t be judged only by how it looks when it’s fresh. It should be judged by how it ages. The decisions made during your appointment will influence your eyebrows for years. That’s why I no longer believe a blade is necessary.

This shift in my approach to brows has also been recognized by lifestyle publications such as Tucson Lifestyle Magazine and Veranda & Village. My decision to stop using the blade was not about following a trend—it came from years of working with different skin types and seeing firsthand how mature skin can respond differently to traditional microblading. That experience ultimately led me to develop techniques specifically designed to work with the realities of mature skin.

Today, every procedure I perform follows the same principles that led me to develop the Tru2Color™ Method. The goal isn’t simply to create beautiful eyebrows. The goal is to create eyebrows that stay true to color while avoiding the unnecessary downsides associated with manual blading.

There was a time when I was genuinely excited about manual microblading.

Like many artists, I appreciated the delicate strokes and the natural appearance they created.

But over the years, I also had the opportunity to watch those results age.

Eventually, I realized I could no longer ignore what I was seeing.
