What is Permanent Makeup, also known as Micropigmentation?

Permanent Makeup also referred, Micropigmentation or Dermopigmentation, is a process whereby completely natural inorganic pigments are implanted beneath the epidermis (top layer of skin), into the dermal layer (second layer of skin), by needle microinsertion. This technique has been medically developed and specifically designed for a safe permanent application. Permanent cosmetics is a safe and natural looking alternative to the expense and daily routine of applying makeup upon waking in the morning and often times throughout the day. It is a state-of-the-art technique of applying long lasting makeup via intradermal micropigmentation. Properly applied by an experienced physician, nurse or technician, micropigmentation will be more natural and realistic in appearance as compared to conventional cosmetics. The medical grade pigments used nowadays have been specially formulated for this kind of procedure.

Why Micropigmentation is Also Known as PMU (Permanent Makeup) or Cosmetic Tattooing?

Most of people refer to micropigmentation as PMU (Permanent Makeup) or cosmetic tattooing which is correct. A term used for our cosmetic services in Murfreesboro, TN. The process is similar to tattooing since pigment is implanted into the skin, but the aesthetic result might be quite different. Permanent Makeup or Micropigmentation cannot be done with metal based tattoo pigments, it would result in toxicity, pigment migration between the layers of the skin, leaving dark spots or even blotches. Tattoo coil machines are not appropriate to do permanent makeup delicate job: coil tattoo machines/needles reach a deeper layer resulting in cold undertones results (Ex: blue/gray eyebrows and eyeliners, purple lip liners). Tattoo techniques are not able to provide natural effects, like hair by hair (stroke by stroke), multidimensional eyebrows and lips corrections.

Micropigmentation is done in 2 or even 3 sessions. Initially a sketch is done with regular makeup once the shape and color will be defined and the client will have a close idea about the final appearance. The touch up is done 45 days after the first treatment to enhance the color and give a perfect finish. Sometimes, a second touch up is required when the client wishes bold eyeliners or darker eyebrows, or when retention is not enough. Micropigmentation procedures are much more tolerable than regular body tattoo. It can be applied in all kinds of skin and ages since the right technique is chosen. On micropigmentation, numbing anesthetic cream is generously applied 30 minutes before the procedure and is reapplied few times during the procedure to avoid any discomfort.

For our special male clients who want natural looking eyebrows we recommend the Nanobrows as strokes simulation. This technique consists of implanting color in a little one by one hair stroke line between your existing eyebrows to give a fuller and best designed eyebrow shape. Having the procedure done will give you assured confidence that nobody will be able to identify that you have had permanent makeup applied. It is up to you how you want your new look to be, we can do it gradual or completely.

Scalp Micropigmentation or Tricopigmentation

Scalp micropigmentation is a new and innovative technique that offers an alternative styling option for men who do not want or are not candidates for hair transplant surgery. Micropigmentation can be used for a variety of scalp conditions, including genetic male pattern baldness (MPB), scarring alopecias (alopecia areata, alopecia totalis), and neurosurgical procedures scarring.

Vitiligo Skin Camouflage

Results are instantaneous and last up to 3 years without washing off. It camouflages the white patches of skin so they blend right in with your regular skin tone. The procedure can be performed on face, hands, or almost anywhere on the body. Up close, it looks like a professionally applied make-up concealer but it does not smudge or washes off. Skin camouflages are the next best thing to treat the appearance of skin hypopigmentation but NOT all patients are candidates. Small areas are easier to add color, while larger areas are always challenging due to the fact that sometimes the body REJECTS the pigment. It is always a hit or

Permanent Makeup Post Procedure Aftercare

Proper aftercare is essential to get good results after your permanent makeup procedure. When properly healed, your need for future touch ups or corrections will be significantly decreased. When permanent makeup is not kept clean and moisturized, there is a risk of scaring, total pigment loss or even a nasty infection. Here is a list of things you must do for long lasting and natural results of your permanent makeup.

• KEEP IT CLEAN AND MOISTURIZED!!!! If your new makeup is not kept clean, you risk getting a bacterial infection. Prevent this at all costs, it’s not hard to do. Wash your new eyebrows every 2h in the first 24h with a mild antibacterial bar soap. preferably unscented. Pat dry with paper towel only, don’t use any towels or any other fabric from now on until all the healing process is over, even when you step out of the shower. After 24h, apply a layer of vaseline to isolate from water before shower. Let your face be the last thing you wash. Pat dry with paper towel and leave a thin layer of Vaseline, do not rub it out completely. When you feel dry and possibly itchy, apply the Healing balm stick (it will be given to you at the first appointment) as many times as needed to keep your healing process comfortable. Change your pillow cases every night for at least 10 days.
• KEEP OUT THE SUN!!!! UV Rays fade pigments over time and pose a particular threat to fresh pigments. New permanent makeup should not be exposed to the sun. Wear a hat with a brim and sunglasses that will cover your healing permanent makeup. Once the makeup is healed, always wear a UV Protectant on your skin. When tanning, wear goggles over your eyes and eyebrows. This will keep your color looking its best and reduce fading over time. You will also need to STAY OUT OF THE POOL or beach while healing. Chlorine will not only burn a fresh wound, but chemicals should never be introduced to fresh pigment. Marine Salt makes the pigments fade as magic.
• LESS MAKEUP AND NO FACIALS!!! Additional makeup and mascara may be used over the eyeliner pigmented area after at least 15 days of application. You will have to buy new mascara after eyeliner procedure if you want to start using before 15 days. In case of eyebrows, you can still use some foundation and concealer on the superior part of the brows or under eyes (no eyeshadows close to the brows or makeup on brows before there is no scabs left), keep in mind that you need to be very careful when removing that makeup with makeup removal wipes. Used makeup and makeup containers have old bacteria in them. You cannot put this on healing skin because you’re risking an infection and chance of unwanted scaring.

You can get facials 3 weeks after your initial procedure. Your facial routine may change though, you now cannot get abrasive facial peels or waxed over your new permanent makeup. Retin-A will peel layers of skin and can fade your pigment significantly. Waxing can fade the pigment in your skin as well. Your technician or esthetician will have to take special care in applying a facial, chemical peel or wax around your brows.
